How You Can Support Project My Time The Wallace Foundation generously awarded the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corp. $8 million over three years for Project My Time. The District of Columbia is one of five cities across the country that The Wallace Foundation is supporting. We plan to raise an additional $8 million within three years to fully fund a business plan that builds a strong, aligned system for delivering high-quality after-school and summer programs. We are seeking partners in this initiative because effective programs help District youth, support business and strengthen the community and local economy. After-school and summer programs help students grow up to become successful adults.
Studies show that high-quality programs improve attitudes toward learning. Such programs can help youth graduate on time, go on to higher education, and succeed in the workforce. After-school and summer programs support families and make employees more productive. When parents worry about their unsupervised children or miss work to care for them, employers pay the cost in lowered productivity. A recent study estimates that business cost to be from $496 to $1,984 per employee per year, depending on the employee’s salary. After-school and summer programs strengthen the community and the local economy. Young people who are engaged in productive activities become role models for other students, learn better, and create a more positive environment for themselves, their peers, their families, and the broader community. You can become a partner in this work with a financial contribution or with in-kind support. You can pick one of the options on the menu of ideas we’ve developed, or we’ll work with you to design an investment that matches your resources and interests with student, family and community needs.
